Genealogy: There’s Always

More to Learn

Genealogy is more than finding names and dates—it is learning how to discover the stories behind them. This presentation explores the skills and knowledge that can make us better family historians, from understanding records, history, immigration, and DNA to recognizing common research mistakes. We’ll also look at how continuing to learn—and learning to ask better questions—can open new paths in our genealogy research.

Presented by Rita Vogl

Rita grew up in Western New York, surrounded by family traditions, cultural heritage, and small-town history. She spent much of her career at Xerox Corporation and later returned to college as a working adult, earning a master’s degree in Organizational Management from Rochester Institute of Technology, where she developed a strong interest in lifelong learning and human development.

After living in California, where she became active in community volunteer work, Rita and her husband, Howard, retired to Florida. She joined the Halifax Genealogical Society to learn more about researching her Polish heritage and soon discovered an even deeper interest in history. She also volunteers at the Ormond Beach MacDonald House and enjoys continuing to learn about the people and history of her community.
